Information
The Arctic Fox, also known as the White Fox, Polar Fox, or Snow Fox, is a small species of fox native to the Arctic regions of the Northern Hemisphere and commonly found throughout the Arctic tundra biome. The Arctic Fox is renowned for its thick, warm fur, which serves as camouflage. It has keen hearing, capable of detecting seal dens up to a mile away. The color of its fur changes with the seasons—white in winter and brown or bluish-grey in summer. Its small ears help reduce heat loss, making it well-suited to living in cold environments.
Eating Habits
The Arctic Fox is an omnivore and scavenger. They eat nearly all types of animals, both alive and dead. Their main diet consists of small mammals, but they also consume berries, insects, carrion, and feces from animals or humans. During winter, they are more likely to feed on marine mammals, birds, invertebrates, fish, and seals.
Habitat
The Arctic Fox is found in the treeless coastal areas of Alaska, from the northern Aleutian Islands to Point Barrow and east to the Canadian border. They prefer tundra habitats, usually near rocky shores, and are often found on ice floes during winter. They also tend to use dumpsites in northern Alaska.
