The black-crowned crane is omnivorous and will eat anything small enough for them to catch, including snails, insects, crabs, lizards, amphibians, and snakes. They also consume seeds and fruits.
Habitat
The black-crowned crane lives in shallow wetlands and mixed grasslands, and is often found in flooded wetlands, wet farming land, rice fields, and highland fields in West Africa. In East Africa, these birds prefer wet areas such as wet grasslands, large swamps, freshwater lakes, and rivers.
