Information

Badgers live in large family groups in burrows underground called ‘sets.’ If a set is inhabited, it is usually neat and clean, with the entrance marked by piles of used bedding materials made of dry grass and leaves. There are also smelly holes nearby that are used by the badgers as toilets! They have strong front legs, which they use to dig for food. Cubs are born in January or February but spend the first few months underground, only coming out in spring when the weather is a bit warmer.

Eating Habits

Diet: Earthworms, large insects, small mammals, young, grains, and tubers. Badgers can eat several hundred earthworms in one night. Badgers can eat hedgehogs because they have thick skin and long claws. Badgers can easily find rabbit burrows and dig beneath the surface due to their keen sense of smell.

Habitat

Habitat: Grasslands, farmland, wooded areas, and gardens.
